Coffee used to be my go to beverage. ☕️ No matter where I went, you would always find me with a to-go cup in my hand, preferably Starbucks. Then I discovered Matcha Latte and everything changed! 🍵✨
My love for coffee
But let’s start from the beginning. During my teenage years, I loved to meet my friends for coffee. I think as a big city girl (I grew up in Berlin, Germany) it was normal to have regular coffee meetings. Actually, my whole social life evolved around this hot black beverage. Meeting my dates for coffee ✔️ Doing homework at a coffee shop ✔️ Have coffee as an anfternoon pick-me-up ✔️
There was this coffee shop called Caras located right on Ku’damm, one of the main shopping streets in Berlin. It was THE place to be. I just loved to spend my afternoons there sipping on a Latte Macchiato with a cigarette in hand (yep, you read right, I smoked back then). Thinking back, I have to say we had a darn good time!
In college, coffee became even more important with long days of studying and the occasional all-nighters. I dreaded my time in college a lot, so the only thing that got me through the day was my cup of coffee in the morning and sometimes in the afternoon.
I never drank more than 1-2 cups a day, though, even during my days at a PR agency (which were sometimes VEEERYY long). Probably because I’ve never been prone to addiction (even this smoking thing was just a bad habit that resolved itself pretty quickly).
When I met my boyfriend, I was crushed that he didn’t drink coffee. I was so used to grabbing a cup of good old Joe with my significant other that I felt sad to be robbed of this nice social event. I was determined, though, to not let it interfere with my love for coffee.
Why I stopped drinking coffee
Three years later and I barely drink coffee anymore. I don’t know if it was my boyfriend rubbing off on me or my body telling me, that it does no longer need this kind of stimulation anymore (my body does this every now and then). Lucky for me, I discovered something far more delicious: Matcha Latte!
I first heard about Matcha powder when getting into health and wellness trends more. It was not really love on first sight. The Matcha tasted way too bitter for my liking. Then I saw Matcha Latte pop up on menus at several coffee shops and decided to give it a second try. This time I was hooked!
Since then I have experimented with different milk substitutes and natural sweeteners until I came up with my all time favorite Mocha Matcha Latte recipe. Think creamy chocolate milkshake but with all the health benefits these tea leaves has to offer. Could there be anything better?!
A little bit about Matcha
The Matcha tea leaf is pulverized and then infused with hot water to get Matcha tea. Since you are ingesting the entire leaf, you also get 100% of the nutrients. Matcha is packed with antioxidants (way more than pomegrantes and blueberries) including the cancer fighting catechin EPCg (epigallocatechin gallate).
It also boosts the metabolism, burns calories (hello, dream summer bod! 👋🏼👙), and naturally detoxifies the body. Rich in fiber, chlorophyll, Vitamin C, selenium, chromium, zinc, and magnesium, this drink is a real powerhouse.
And for all my badass bossbabes out there, Matcha also helps you to concentrate without the jitters due to its calming properties provided by a rare amino acid called L-Theranine. Lastly, a cup of this metabolism-boosting green tea prevents your blood sugar from spiking making this beverage the perfect afternoon pick-me-up treat! (Source: Matcha Source)
The green magic potion
This Matcha Mocha Latte can be enjoyed hot or cold. I also added some secret ingredients including chocolate and spirulina powder that will give you even more health benefits. So instead of a regular Matcha Latte, you are going to sip on a green magic potion 🔮! And it is even faster prepared than a cup of coffee!
Iced Matcha Mocha Latte
This refreshing beverage will boost your metabolism, lower your blood sugar, and turn you into a fat burning machine. Perfect first thing in the morning or as an afternoon pick-me-up!
