Let’s talk curls! As a curly girl myself I know that this hair structure is not always easy to handle. But with a few tips and tricks you can totally rock your mane in every life situation!
The funny thing is that I have not always been curly. My hair structure changed during puberty and let me tell you it was not pretty at all! I did not get nice curly locks right away (that would have been a dream, especially as a hormone filled teenager!). Instead I was faced with some weird frizzy structure that wouldn’t look good no matter what I tried. Thus, I started to dispair my hair and envying all the girls with straight hair. It seemed like every look displayed in a magazine was made for straight hair. Leaving me frustrated and unsatisfied with myself. I started to buy straightening shampoo and conditioner and straightened my hair whenever possible.
It wasn’t until my late teenage years that I finally embraced my curls. I started to realize that all I had to do with my locks was wash them and let them air dry. It was so easy and showed me again that everything we are given has a purpose. We just have to stop and appreciate it instead of going after what is displayed in some magazine or commercial. Now it was the straight-haired girls who envied me because they had to put a lot of effort into their styling whereas I could get out the door right away!
The only thing I have to be careful of to this day is the way my hair is treated at the hairdresser. I can’t just go to any hair salon. It all comes down to the right color and treatment.
Recently, I also discovered that my locks have lost some of their bounce. This is mostly due to me growing out my hair. I tried multiple products but nothing seems to help. So I decided to help along a little bit. At first I tried a conventional curling iron but to me it was really cumbersome. Then my hairdresser told me about this new curler by Philips that makes it really easy to curl your hair. My Mom was the first to buy it and we instantly fell in love. Since I’ve moved in with my boyfriend about 1 1/2 years ago, I lost the luxury of using the curler. Thus, I decided it was the time to get my own. And the CUTEST one ever!!! Because they now not only sell them in black but also in white with rose gold details. And, oh boy, I can’t withstand anything rose gold! They also added ionic technique to the curler to further protect your hair. Win win!
Since the use of the curler takes a little getting used to, I made a step-by-step instruction video that you can watch below.
You can also find my favorite hair styling products for curly hair below. I’m all about natural products or products that are mostly natural. Because what you use on your body is just as important as what you put into your body!
Use this in damp hair. It defines your curls and leaves them shiny!
I use coconut oil once a week as a natural hair treatment. Just put approximately 1 Tbsp into your hair and leave in over night. You can use a shower cap to prevent your pillow from getting greasy. Wash out the next morning and your hair will feel smooth and healthy.
Best hair brush to detangle your hair. Especially during winter when your hair gets really messy with wearing a scarf all the time.
I have been using this brush for years! When nothing helps with detangling my mane than this paddle brush comes in! I usually use it together with the Tangle Teezer. I start with the Tangle Teezer brush and continue with the Marlies Möller brush for a pain-free hair brushing experience. Seriously, it will change your life!
