As you might have read in the About Me section, I’m not big when it comes to anything beauty. Hitting my 30s in a few years, though, has me rethinking my game lately. Mostly because I saw the first wrinkles form which really freakes me out (more than I would have thought). So I did a little digging and also started following some beauty gurus out there. I especially recommend Lauryn Evart’s blog The Skinny Confidential as I find her suggestions to be real and genuine.
I’m also always looking for natural alternatives. One of my favorite creams I have been using for years now, even before all the hype, is the Egyptian Magic Creme. You might already have seen Kate Hudson and Madonna raving about it. It comes with only one flaw: if you put too much on your skin you look quite oily as this cream is really rich. What I found works best for me is when I put it on at night. Thus, the ingredients can get really deep into my skin and I wake up with a rosy and pumped up skin. Bonus point: the cream has only a few ingredients that are ALL NATURAL such as olive oil, bee wax, honey, bee pollen, royal jelly, and bee propolis.
The story behind the cream is somehow magic as well. As the founder Mr. Westely Howard (now known as Mr. ImHotepAmonRa) tells the story, he was one day approached by a doctor in a Chicago diner while passing through. The doctor never revealed his first name or what kind of doctor he was but he began to visit Mr. Howard regulary in Washington to teach him how to make a cream from olive oil, bee wax, bee pollen, royal jelly and bee propolis. Dr. Imas claimed that this was the exact formula used by ancient Egyptians and was found in one of their tombs. Putting on this cream might help you look like Nefertiti after all!
Another cream I just discovered last summer has been the Protect Me Mosturizer by Fré. The Fré skincare has been especially developed for athletes. And since I’m working out everyday, in the summer months somtimes twice a day, I thought I’d give it a try. After only a couple of days I was intruiged by the results! My skin cleared up immediately and it seemed like my pores were getting finer leaving me with a radiant skin, no make up needed. I also have to say here that my skin is real sensitive and gets irritated easily. I tried so many products that I had to throw out right away because they gave me rashes. The moisturizer is again all natural and has SPF30. This is especially important for those that live in sun prone areas (unlike me who is writing this while it’s pouring rain outside). More and more researchers suggest that too much sun exposure can lead to aging skin. And who wants this?! The key ingredient is Arganian Active Complex that reduces premature aging and acts against sun damage and dark spots. Further ingredients are:
- Essential Fatty Acids which maintain the skin’s health
- Sterols that help with moisture storage
- Squalene which promotes natural healthy glow
- Vitamin A, B5 and E that fight free radicals from pollution
- Chamomile, Melissa and Rooibos extract that are antioxidant and anti-bacterial
- Symcalmin and Bisabol which calms redness and prevents irritations and itchiness.
A whole powerhouse product!
For the cleanser and serum I also use the products by Fré. I love that the cleanser has small jojoba beads that gently exfoliate your skin. Again Arganian Active Complex serves as a natural cleanser here. It also contains Aloe Vera which is very soothing for inflammed skin. I can only confirm this as Aloe Vera gel was a life changer for me when I had some serious neurodermatitis as a child. The serum furthermure contains Argan Stem Cells that vitalize and protect your skin’s stem cells while reducing wrinkles and supporting firmness. As I can not really see an effect on my wrinkles, I thought about switching to a Vitamin C serum. I read a lot of good stuff about Dr. Dennis Gross so I decided to give the serum a go. I will write about my experiences here soon.
I remove my make up every night before going to bed. Even during my wild party years I never went to bed with make up on. This is crucial if you want your skin to look young and radiant for years to come. With my switch to a more holistic lifestyle I swapped out my bebe make up remover pads for the all natural tissues with micells water by alverde. I found that I have less red spots around my eyes when using these and my skin feels clear and smooth. I usually use the Fré cleanser afterwards to make sure that all make up is removed properly.
One to two times a week I put on a face mask. I used to use the K+K Beach Clay Mask by the Tone It Up girls but recently discovered this phenomenal Watermelon Glow Sleeping Mask. The convenient part is that you put 2 scoops of the mask onto your face right before you go to bed. Wash it off in the morning and watch how your skin glows. The cream diminishes immediately leaving no spots on your pillow. For a quick mask you can also put 1 scoop onto your face and wash it off after ten minutes. Koreans swear on that mask. And as you might know Korean women have the BEST SKIN IN THE WORLD! Watermelon extract is known to be rich in antioxidants, skin-soothing vitamins and amino acids.
My newest discovery is the skincare line by Dr. Dennis Gross that I’m currently testing. I will definitely write a review here soon!
